Drifter 3 tent - Box Humboldt by Mountain Hardwear Reviews
7 of 7 people found the following review helpful Mountain Hardwear Drifter 3 tent, January 26, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent (Misc.) The good news - This tent is water proof, plenty of room for two, and very easy to set up. The tent did include a gear loft that I liked very much. Stuffing the tent back into the stuff bag was easy as well with a little extra room in the bag.
The not-to-bad-news, the tent is a bit heavier than the super light tent and a bit bulkier. There are two mesh pockets built into the tent, but they were kind of flimsy and could not figure out what I would put into them. I have another Mountain Hardwear tent with better quality mesh pockets.
The bad news, The tent footprint designed for this tent is a little too big for the tent allowing rain drops to be caught between footprint and tent. There were puddles under the tent, but the tent bottom is thick enough to keep the rain out. The next time I set up the tent I had to tuck the footprint way under the tent to prevent it from catching rain. Also, the tent fly on the non-vestibule areas lean against the tent allowing the... 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful Quick and easy setup, lightweight and no leaks, May 18, 2011 This review is from: Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent (Misc.) My girlfriend and I took the Drifter 3 out camping for the first time this past weekend and it was a pretty good test. It took longer to determine exactly where to put the tent than it did actually setting it up. The setup is simple and quick, even with the footprint (which is a good addition to protect the floor). I would estimate it took 5 to 7 minutes to get it set up and ready to go. Once set up, we set off for a short hike, about 20 minutes out a rumble of thunder was heard in the distance being unprepared for rain we headed back to the tent. For the next 20 hours it rained, misted or drizzled. Not a drop of water leaked in.
A few drops of water would land inside the tent when you opened the rain fly because of the location that the zipper stops but getting a few drops of water in a tent when entering or exiting shouldn't be unexpected, at least I don't think so given its compact size. In heavy rain I'm sure it would be worse but in general I try to avoid... Read more
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful Mountain Hardwear Drifter 3, December 31, 2011 This review is from: Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent (Misc.) I was recently looking for a tent to get into backpacking more seriously. My previous tent was a Coleman Sundome 3 (yes, I did backpack with it and all of it's 10lbs). This tent is really the exact thing I needed. It is pretty lightweight, managable pack size (if your not using a little tiny backpack), and it is super cheap for the quality of the tent. I just got back from an overnight trip with it and I am very pleased with the performance. We hiked 9 miles and set up the tent on a open rock face. We hopped inside and not more than 5 minutes later it started to rain. We sat in the tent for 15 hours listening to the rain convert back and forth from rain to sleet to snow. We were abruptly woken up in the morning to the sounds of 40-50mph wind gusts bashing the tent walls against our faces. So I hoped outside and guyed it out(using the 4 attachment points on the corners) to rocks. After that, the mighty drifter stayed solid as a rock till later in the morning when we had to pack for our... Read more
